Carlos Boettcher was born in South Africa during apartheid into a family of journalists. After 9/11 he left college to cover the war in Iraq, and went on to report on the fall of ISIS, Ebola and COVID.
He talks openly about the cost: how adrenaline hid what war was doing to him, how newsroom culture made drinking normal, and how that turned into addiction. Carlos tells us how he found his way to recovery and a new sense of purpose.
