If you love sprinkles, this one is for you! This colorful “dot cake” has been all over social media lately. We’ve been loving this trend and had to give it a try- just with a matcha makeover- and instead of turning it into a dessert, we transformed it into the ultimate latte topping.

Viral Dot Cake Matcha Latte

The result is a creamy vanilla pudding-like cloud that sits on top of an iced matcha latte, finished with fun rainbow sprinkles. Every sip truly feels like a celebration. It's rich and nostalgic, but still surprisingly easy to make at home.

Why You'll Love This Recipe

Matcha on its own tastes earthy and umami, and it works really well when balanced with sweet flavors like the vanilla pudding. This latte gives you a drink that's creamy without being overpowering. Plus, the biscuit pieces add a nice texture, and the rainbow sprinkles make it celebration-worthy.

Use a high-quality matcha powder like our Tenchi Organic Matcha for the best color and smooth flavor.

  • 3 tbsp hot water

  • 6 tbsp milk of choice

  • Ice

  • Vanilla pudding topping

  • Rainbow sprinkles

Vanilla Pudding Topping

  • ½ cup condensed milk

  • ½ cup cold water

  • 4 tbsp vanilla instant pudding mix

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream

  • 4 oz biscuit, broken into small pieces

Directions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the condensed milk, cold water, and vanilla pudding mix until smooth. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.

  2. Whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, then gently fold it into the chilled pudding mixture. Fold in the biscuit pieces and transfer the mixture to a container. Cover and refrigerate overnight for the best texture.

  3. Sift the matcha into a bowl to remove any clumps. Add the hot water and whisk until smooth and frothy.

  4. Stir in the milk, then pour the mixture into a glass filled with ice, leaving about an inch of space at the top.

  5. Spoon a generous layer of the vanilla pudding over the matcha latte and spread it evenly.

  6. Place the cup over a bowl to catch any extra sprinkles, then evenly cover the pudding layer with rainbow sprinkles to create the signature "dot cake" effect.

Tips & Tricks

How to make matcha

Sift your matcha

It only takes a few extra seconds, but helps to eliminate clumps and gives you a smoother, creamier latte.

Chill the pudding overnight

While you can use the pudding right away if you’re in a hurry, chilling it overnight allows the flavors to develop and gives the topping a thicker texture that sits better on top of the drink.

Customize your milk

Whole milk will give you the creamiest latte, but oat milk, almond milk, or your favorite dairy-free alternative all work well.

Make it ahead of time

Prepare the pudding a day ahead and keep it refrigerated. When you're ready to serve, simply whisk your matcha, assemble the drinks, and add the sprinkles.
