Most parfaits call for an already sweetened yogurt, but we’ve swapped that out for plain whole-fat yogurt, which dramatically cuts down on the sugar content AND we've added matcha powder- giving your yogurt parfait a superfood boost.

Ingredients you will need to make two matcha yogurt parfaits:

  • 1 ½ cup whole-fat Greek yogurt

  • 1 ½ teaspoon matcha

  • ½ cup diced strawberries

  • ½ cup raspberries

  • ½ cup pomegranate seeds

  • ½ cup granola

  • Drizzle of honey

4 Step Directions for making matcha parfait:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine your yogurt and sifted matcha thoroughly.
  2. To assemble your parfaits, pick out two mason jars, cups, or bowls of your choice (we opt for clear glasses for the pleasing aesthetics!) and place a few spoonfuls of fruit in the bottom of each of your two mason jars or glasses.
  3. Top fruit with one tablespoon of granola, then about ¼ cup of yogurt.
  4. Repeat with as many layers as desired. Top with granola, fruit, and a drizzle of honey.  You can also choose to make a smaller serving with simply one later. Up to you!

Put a healthy twist on a classic, easy parfait recipe by adding matcha powder

Matcha boasts its own incredible health benefits as well. Matcha is a phenomenal energy source as it doesn’t give you jitters like coffee. It’s high in an amino acid called L-Theanine, which is known as the calming amino acid. So you’ll feel alert yet calm. We can’t think of a better way to start the day than that! Matcha is also high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties.

In addition to the antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents you’re getting from matcha, you’ll also be getting a big boost of these from the berries and fruit. Pomegranates, raspberries, and strawberries also contain fiber, which is key for healthy digestion and something most people severely lack in their diets. Fruit, in general, is also a great source of vitamins and minerals, especially purple and red fruits.

Tips to keep in mind when making your matcha green tea parfait

While we’ve put down specific measurements, you can easily add/reduce any item to make your parfait the way YOU’D like.

Some ideas to make this your own:

    • Add more berries
    • Swap berries for another fruit in season
    • Trade granola for nuts and/or seeds
    • Sweeten to your preference- add or take away the honey or use a different sweetener like maple syrup.
    • Add chia seeds or flax seeds.
    • Sprinkle some cinnamon or a little bit of turmeric on-top.

Why you should choose whole-fat yogurt for this recipe

While you can certainly substitute low-fat or non-fat yogurt for whole-fat, we highly recommend sticking to whole-fat. Not only does whole-fat yogurt have a much smoother and richer taste, but it also has many health benefits. Yogurt is an excellent source of calcium and probiotics, which are essential for gut health and immunity.

Whole-fat yogurt tends to be higher in calcium and protein and helps you absorb fat-soluble vitamins like vitamin D (typically added). In addition, whole-fat yogurt keeps you feeling full and satisfied, so you don’t immediately reach for the snack drawer.

The bottom line — Matcha parfaits make for an easy, affordable, and healthy breakfast or dessert

No matter how you decide to make your parfait, we know it will become a staple. It’s quick, easy, healthy, AND tastes good. It hits all the perfect notes of a good breakfast or snack and is unique enough to wow a crowd.
