It will only have as many calories as you add in fruit.

DIY Version: “Starbucks® Pink Drink” Sugar content?

It’s tough to order anything from Starbucks® without there being added-sugar. This is especially the case for the matcha at Starbucks®, which is usually pre-sweetened even before the liquid sugar additives.

Therefore, we decided to create our own Starbucks®-inspired Strawberry Matcha Pink Drink that only has natural sugar from the fresh strawberries, making it a healthy alternative that you can make from your own kitchen!

Recipe for Matcha Strawberry Acai Drink - Strawberry “Starbucks® Style” Pink Drink

DIY “Starbucks® -inspired” Strawberry Matcha Pink Drink Recipe

Added-sugar Free | Ingredients
  • 2 cups Fresh Strawberries
  • 1/2 cup Cold Water
  • 1 tsp Acai Powder
  • 1/3 cup Coconut Milk or Coconut Water
  • 1.5 tsp Japanese Matcha Powder
  • Ice
  • Optional: Freeze-dried Strawberries for Garnish
Instructions | Time: 5 min
  • Puree strawberries and add in the acai powder in your preferred mixer or blender until smooth.
  • In a separate bottle (wide-mouth is helpful), blend the water and 1.5 tsp of authentic matcha powder; shake hard until combined or use traditional matcha whisk
  • Into one large cup or two ~8 oz cups, fill with ice and pour the pureed strawberry completely (and equally if two cups).
  • Follow by creating the gorgeous layer of matcha froth; pour matcha slowly onto the strawberry acai puree.
  • Ta-da! Now you may garnish as desired with freeze-dried strawberries or other desired fruits!

Some Tweaks To Note:

  • We understand that you might not have acai powder just lying around your house (if you do, that's great!). So, you can definitely make this without it, and you're still left with a flavorful and healthful beverage!

  • Using coconut milk will give you a creamier touch to this drink, while adding in coconut water will keep it on the more refreshing side. Both sound like great options, if you ask me!

Summary | Choosing your own Matcha rather than Starbucks®

The nice thing about this recipe is that the control is yours! You can easily double or triple (recipe above serves up to 2) the recipe, and you get to decide how to garnish it.

Unlike Starbucks®, you also get control over what matcha powder goes into your Matcha Pink Drink. That means you can select a Ceremonial Grade Matcha of your preference, or simply stick to a matcha suitable for cafe-style preparations.
